Mabel laughing on the lounge sofa at Pineapple House in Bocas del Toro

Mabel runs both places.

She is based in Bocas, where she meets you at the door, tells you which boat to take and which restaurant is actually open tonight, books your tours, swaps your towels halfway through the week, and checks in to see how you are getting on. Panama City runs on the same phone and the same standards.

Guests mention her by name more than they mention the rooms. That is the part a booking platform cannot sell you.

What our customers say after staying with us

Pulled live from Airbnb, unedited and including anything less than glowing. We do not choose which ones show.

A look around.

The long shared lounge under a covered walkway, opening onto the garden
Timber tables and yellow chairs beside the planted courtyard
Queen bed made up with pineapple print cushions
Ferns and tropical planting along the garden corridor
A guest room with queen bed, air conditioning and the en suite door
The saltwater rooftop pool with a timber deck and city views
The living room with floor to ceiling windows onto the balcony
The bedroom with a queen bed and a panelled headboard

Before you book.

Is it actually cheaper to book here?

Yes. Booking platforms add a guest service fee on top of the nightly rate at checkout, usually somewhere in the low teens as a percentage. There is no such fee here, so the same room costs less. Nothing is added at the door either.

Can I stay in both places on one trip?

Plenty of guests do, usually a few nights in Panama City at either end of a week in Bocas. Message us and we will line the dates up so the two bookings meet properly around your flights.

How do I get to Bocas del Toro?

Fly from Albrook in Panama City to Isla Colón in about an hour, or take the overnight bus to Almirante and a thirty minute water taxi across. There is also a ferry if you are bringing a car. Our getting here page walks through all three.

Do you take long stays?

Yes, at both. The guesthouse allows long stays and the apartment in Casco Viejo has a desk, a full kitchen and a coworking lounge in the building, so it suits people working remotely for a few weeks. Ask us about weekly and monthly rates.

What languages do you speak?

English and Spanish. In practice that means you can sort out a problem at ten at night in whichever of the two you are more comfortable with.

Is it safe to book direct rather than through a platform?

You pay by card through our booking system, not by bank transfer, and you get written confirmation with your dates, the full price and the cancellation terms before you travel. You also know exactly who you booked with: four years of hosting and 93 public reviews you can go and read on the platforms.
